Collection: Nicolae Enea – Romanian painting between post-impressionist lyricism and traditional life

Nicolae Enea – Romanian painter of light, tradition and rural scenes

Nicolae Enea (1897, Valea Arinilor, Bacau – 1960, Bacau) was a Romanian painter known for his lyrical post-impressionist style and for his themes inspired by Moldovan rural life. He studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Bucharest and at the Free Academy of Painting, under the guidance of artists such as George Demetrescu Mirea, Jean Alexandru Steriadi and Gheorghe Petrascu.

In 1934, he represented Romania at the International Painting Exhibition in Paris, where he received the silver medal for his work "Elvira", a portrait of his wife. He was a co-founder of the Municipal Art Gallery in Bacau and created murals in churches and public buildings, including the Orthodox Cathedral in Chisinau and the Bacovia Theater in Bacau.

His paintings are distinguished by warm colors, balanced compositions, and a deep sensitivity to the landscape and people of the rural environment. His works include fair scenes, portraits of peasants, and Moldavian landscapes, reflecting a poetic vision of traditional Romanian life.
