Henri H. Catargi (1894, Bucharest – 1976) is one of the most important Romanian painters of the 20th century, known for his sober, balanced style and refined compositions. He studied in Paris, at the Academy "La Grande Chaumiere", and was influenced by classical French art and impressionism.
His favorite themes include still life, landscape and the human figure, treated with elegant simplicity and rigorous technique. He was a member of the Romanian Academy and a professor at the Institute of Fine Arts in Bucharest. His works are present in important museums in Romania and in valuable private collections.
