Juan Alpar – self-taught painter of the Romanian landscape, influenced by Andreescu

Juan Alpar, the artistic pseudonym of Ioan Alexandru Paraschivescu (b. c. 1855–1857, Bucharest – d. 1901), was a self-taught Romanian painter, known for the sensitivity with which he rendered the Romanian rural landscape. He was influenced by Ion Andreescu and exhibited for the first time in 1886 within the "Intim-Club" , an artistic circle that he co-founded with other modern artists of the era.

His works, such as A House in Campina, On the Edge of the Pond and A Flock of Sheep, capture nature and rural life with simplicity and emotion. The paintings were appreciated at the time, and some of them were purchased by the Ministry of Public Instruction , being considered valuable for the national artistic heritage.
