Jean Alexandru Steriadi (1880, Bucharest – 1956, Bucharest) was a Romanian painter, graphic artist and teacher, representative of the modern Romanian school of painting. He studied in Bucharest and Paris, and his pedagogical activity influenced generations of artists, including Rudolf Schweitzer-Cumpana, Alexandru Tipoia and Corneliu Baba.
Steriadi approached with predilection the urban landscape , the portrait and the genre scene , often inspired by the life in Bucharest or by his travels in France, Italy and Greece. His painting is distinguished by its compositional clarity, balanced palette and acute observation of reality. He was a full member of the Romanian Academy and director of the Simu Museum.
